What you are witnessing is the human optimism bias defending itself at all costs. Any body of human belief that relates to any operating system of human society will defend its assumptions by ridiculing you if you point out that it is lying.
Understand this: life itself is a fraud and must lie in order to keep people motivated to live it. It compels you to participate and act through shame and false belief. It won’t deliver what it promises — but pay no attention to that. Keep offering sacrifices according to the mandated ritual. If you point out that it is lying, it will make sure everyone knows that you are at fault for a deeply personal reason.
So, anything that relates to the human operating system — anything that amounts to a society or tribe that generates resources — will defend its myth. This includes religions, mating strategies and rituals, and reward systems.
Anything it mandates that does not work in reality will automatically be your deep personal fault and failure, regardless of how obviously absurd or unreal its mandates are. There is no way out of it. It refuses to be criticized or exposed for what it is.
It only has two responses:

It is just life itself lying to you. If it doesn’t lie, it panics — because it can’t believe it is a fraud, and it needs constant deception and false appearances to motivate people to live it. No one would dare believe it is that corrupt.
Life is a liar and hates to be exposed. People are saving themselves from realizing this by condemning you and throwing you under the bus for seeing that it is a hoax. It’s all they know. There is no positive, upbeat answer as to why this corrupt reality exists, so we would rather throw people under the bus who realize its limits.

Worse yet, you are protected by the god of this world and enabled to continue this in perpetuity all the while people pray for an end to it. Any God that permits this, is itself the destroyer of anuses and not to be worshipped.
Another sad truth is that the cost of maintaining ultimate optimism and belief in collective mandates is that you have to hurt a lot of people. You have to dismiss people as soon as they notice and begin to speak of these things. You also have to reject people as soon as they realize that you yourself are lying in your attempt to preserve your positive emotions and optimistic view of reality.
It becomes a long road of people ousting others who start to notice these things about life. This is necessary for hierarchy preservation, religious continuance, and the maintenance of reward-system motivations. You have to reject everyone who notices and engage in performative belief confirmation with those who are still trying to maintain the illusion.
That’s how it is. Optimism bias requires hurting and sacrificing people to preserve your own illusions. "I'm sorry, this information you are bringing me is not the feeling I want to be manifesting, out you go!"
